About the role

Korea Defense Language Institute (KDLI), a division of the Joint Forces Military University, seeks English Instructors to teach intensive courses (1–6 months) to motivated ROK Armed Forces personnel. Courses focus on communication skills for joint/combined missions.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, organize, and deliver instruction aligned to KDLI standards.
  • Develop lesson plans using a range of techniques and strategies.
  • Teach reading, writing, speaking, and listening across relevant content areas.
  • Administer assessments and maintain accurate records of progress.
  • Adapt curriculum for individual, small-group, and remedial needs.
  • Maintain classroom standards and maximize learning time.
  • Oversee assigned out-of-classroom activities as needed.

Schedule

  • Regular teaching hours: Mon–Thu 10:30–15:20 (or 08:30 start on certain courses); Fri 08:30–12:30.
  • Tutoring: 15:30–17:00 once or twice weekly.
  • Typical load: ~20–24 teaching hours per week; course and term dependent.

Compensation

  • Hourly rate: 35,000 KRW per teaching hour (higher rate possible for outstanding instructors).
  • Unpaid breaks may occur between courses; paid vacation per Korean Labor Law.

Requirements

  • Non-Korean nationals: Bachelor’s degree from a four-year university in an English-speaking country, or a Bachelor’s in English Language from a country where English is the official second language.
  • Korean nationals: Master’s degree or higher and at least six years of residence in a country where English is a mother tongue.
  • Preferred: Master’s or higher, TESOL/TEFL/CELTA certificate, 3+ years teaching experience, military or military-institute experience, and relevant publications.
